Rides and Regulations for the 15`h Festival from 20 to
24 May 2009
1 -The following are eligible to take part in the
Festival on invitation from the Organising Committee:
non-French choirs meeting the Festival's musical quality
criteria who submit their applications between 15 May
and 30 November 2008. The choirs, of a maximum of 45
singers, may be mixed or consist of men, women or
children.
Applications must be made on the enclosed form and
submitted with the documents below:

Three recent colour
photos of the choir; photocopies are not accepted;

Sound recordings of
recent performances: 3 CDs and a DVD if available;

A brief history of the
choir and the choirmaster;

Registration fees of
€100 paid by bank transfer to the following account:

2 - The Festival is not a
competition.
Our Festival is a meeting of outstanding choirs from all
over the world in all their diversity. It is a meeting
of peoples and cultures given, in particular, that
visitons are lodged with French families, and given
the friendly contact they have with a discerning public
who have been coming to the Festival for more than 30
years.
3 - The Festival lasts five days from Wednesday,
20 May to Sunday, 24 May 2009. The choirs are
required to be present from the start of the forma)
program on Wednesday afternoon to the closing lunch on
Sunday afternoon.
Choirs are required to take part in the whole program.
4 - The choirs taking part will be selected during
the last quarter of 2008.
All choirs applying will be informed immediately the
decision has been made.
The selection will be made on the basis of their sound
and/or video recordings and the choirs' references. In
making the selection, particular emphasis will be placed
on the choir's originality, sensitivity, vocal quality,
and its presentation of the cultural traditions and
forms of expression of its country of orïgïn. All styles
are eligible: dassical, contemporary, folk, religions
music, variety. We are particularly interested in choirs
with a program possibly including physical and/or
instrumental elements.
The choirs selected will have until 15 lanuary 2009 to
confirm their participation by making a deposit of €600
that will be refunded on the Sunday at the end of the
Festival. Payment of the deposit shall be deemed
acceptante of these Rides and Regulations.
On receipt of the deposit, the choir's selection will
become final and will be confirmed.
Should - in event of force majeure - the choir withdraw
its application before 1 March 2009, the deposit will be
refunded in full.
The Festival organisers will keep in touch regularly
with each choir selected and exchange information (by
e-mail where possible) on an interactive basis.

5 - All choirs will
perform in Nancy and in other towns and villages in
the Region as listed on the official program of concerts
and other events.
The Festival organisers reserve the right to record
and/or film part or all of the events and performances
forming part of the Festival and to use these recordings
subsequently without royalties or any other compensation
being due to the choirs.
6 - Participating choirs
will pay their own travelling costs from their
country of origin to Nancy. During the Festival they
will travel in their own coach. Choirs will use their
own coaches for travelling throughout the Festival.
7 - Accommodation will be
provided fre throughout their stay for all choirs
selected. Board and lodging will be available from
Wednesday evening to Sunday midday with the families of
Lorraine choir participants.
8 - It is recommended
that each choir brings a journalist or other press,
radio or N representative from their town, region or
country. The representative's board and lodging will be
provided by the Festival organisers. Copies of their
articles or recordings made during the Festival Should
be sent to the organisers as and when they are broadcast
or appear in the press.
At the Nancy City Council
reception, as an exchange of gifts is customary, the
Festival organisers will hand each choir taking part a
diploma and commemorating its participation,.
(International Festival of Choral Music) has been one of
the City of Nancy's major annual
I~ artistic and cultural events since 1979. It is
officially supported in particular by Nancy City
Council, Meurthe-et-Moselle County Council and Lorraine
Regional Council. Nancy is the historie capital of
Lorraine, a French region with many strong, friendly
links with other European countries and the
rest of the world. A university town, Greater Nancy has
a population of 300,000. |
